A Truly Free Bird

Updated: Mar 14, 2024

I pen down this blog post today with immense gratitude and a heart full of emotions. One year ago, my book, "Caged Free Bird," found its way into the hands of readers worldwide. As I reflect on this journey, turning 33 and 10 years ago, was I celebrating behind bars; from the darkness of unjust incarceration to the light of being a therapist and forensic clinician, I am filled with a profound sense of accomplishment and hope. My life story was etched in a prison cell's cold, unforgiving walls a year ago. Falsely accused and unjustly confined, the world seemed like a desolate place. But within the confines of those bars, I discovered a strength I never knew I possessed. It was a strength that fueled my determination to overcome unjust circumstances and emerge from the shadows as a beacon of resilience and transformation. "Caged Free Bird" is not just a book; it's a testament to the human spirit's ability to endure, evolve, and triumph over adversity. I share my story not to dwell on the past but to inspire others facing their own trials and remind them that an opportunity for growth and renewal lies within every challenge.

Today, as a therapist, I find a profound purpose in helping others navigate the intricate labyrinth of their struggles. The empathy I gained from my experiences is a compass, guiding me to understand and connect with those seeking solace and healing. I am determined to use my voice, story, and newfound profession to fight against injustice and advocate for those who have been silenced. The journey doesn't end with personal triumph; it extends to a broader commitment to social justice and change. As I celebrate this one-year milestone, I am filled with anticipation for the battles yet to come. The fight for justice is ongoing, and I am ready to face it head-on, armed with the strength of my convictions and the support of those who believe in the power of redemption. Thank you to the team I work with that allows me the comfort and space to be myself and thrive & for you to be the best at what you do.
