Focus on the NOW.

In conjunction with many other addictions that come with eating disorders and exercise, there comes a sense of comfort in the routine of the mind of an addict. When your routine is out of whack, you attempt to control something else in your life. When addicted to a unique, mind-consuming lifestyle, it is easier to regress and relapse when the current lifestyle is too overwhelming or traumatic. The easiest way out is to go back to a comfortable routine that consumes your mind to forget the current situation and live in your world of counting, recounting, and focusing on what you don't need to focus on.
